Broncos Lead Packers 3-0 After First Quarter

Having won the first coin toss, the Packers decided to defer. Jaire Alexander, who missed games due to a back ailment, was replaced at outside cornerback by Carrington Valentine in the starting lineup.

After putting two early pressures on Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson, Denver’s Courtland Sutton connected on a 33-yard throw to get into Green Bay territory on a third-and-seven play.

Once more, Wilson and Sutton connected for a 3-yard gain to convert a third down at the Packers’ 31. On a third-and-one play, Javonte Williams had a 4-yard touchdown run for Denver, but Quinn Bailey was called for holding.

With 8 minutes, 27 seconds remaining in the first quarter, the Broncos settled for a 32-yard field goal from Will Lutz to grab a 3-0 lead.

For Green Bay, Aaron Jones began the game with just two yards gained on his first two rushes. The Packers were forced to punt after Jordan Love struck AJ Dillon with an underneath ball that went for six yards.

With the help of Quay Walker’s 1-yard stop for a loss of Williams on second down, Green Bay’s defence forced a three-and-out.

Jones made a five-yard gain on a dive up the middle to start the game at the Packers’ 38, which set up Love’s 8-yard throw to tight end Luke Musgrave for the first down.

On third-and-6, Love and Jayden Reed missed a downfield throw, forcing the Packers to punt. On fourth-and-6, the Packers seemed to drag defence offsides, but centre Josh Myers was called for a false.

The touchback came from a 51-yard punt by Daniel Whelan that rebounded into the end zone.

Denver will be in Green Bay territory to begin the second quarter.
